Recap of RMRA's 6th Annual Mardi Gras Fête: A Night of Celebration and Giving

On February 24th, 2024, the Rocky Mountain Rett Association (RMRA) hosted its highly anticipated 6th Annual Mardi Gras Fête at the enchanting Mercury Cafe nestled in downtown Denver. The event was a resounding success, drawing over 120 attendees and selling out well in advance.

The entertainment was headlined by the dazzling Miss Monroe and the Rhinettes. Attendees were treated to a captivating cabaret-style show featuring a variety of group numbers and solos. The Mercury Cafe didn’t disappoint with its flair. The aroma of delectable New Orleans-inspired cuisine filled the air, featuring mouthwatering dishes like jambalaya, cornbread, and creamed spinach. And who could forget the irresistible King cake that left everyone craving more?

One of the highlights of the evening was the inspiring talk delivered by Paige Nues, Family Empowerment Director at the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. Paige shared heartfelt stories from the early days of the Rett community getting together to establish the Rett Clinics, reminding everyone of the importance of community support and the incredible strides made in advancing Rett Syndrome research and care.

Tim Moore, the father of Tatum, who has Rett Syndrome, presented the Judi Masters Award to Kara Penn. Tim told us how Kara was on his side since he was a kid and was a tremendous support when Tatum was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome. Kara then stepped up and helped RMRA organize and create a solid board structure and fundraising events such as the Mardi Gras Fete. We appreciate Kara’s dedication to RMRA throughout the years!

Throughout the night, guests had the opportunity to connect with fellow Rett families, bid on exciting items in the live auction, and capture cherished memories in the lively photo booth provided by The Laughing Photobooth. See some of the pictures below!

But perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the event was the overwhelming generosity of all who attended. Through their collective efforts, RMRA raised an impressive $42,000 in support of the Rett Clinic at Children's Hospital Colorado. These funds will play a crucial role in ensuring the continued operation and success of the clinic, providing invaluable care and support to individuals and families affected by Rett Syndrome.

As the evening came to a close, there was a palpable sense of camaraderie and pride amongst all who attended. It was a true testament to the power of community and the unwavering dedication of those committed to making a difference.

A big shout out goes to our sponsors Acadia and First Bank! To all who contributed to the success of the 6th Annual Mardi Gras Fête, whether through sponsorship, attendance, or donations, RMRA extends its heartfelt gratitude. Together, we are the village that supports and uplifts one another, ensuring brighter futures for all those affected by Rett Syndrome.

And as we reflect on the memories made and the lives touched, let us remember to "Laissez les bons temps rouler" - let the good times roll!
