2nd Annual RMRA Mardi Gras Fete raises $12000 for the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital
On February 29th, RMRA hosted the 2nd Annual Mardi Gras Fete at the Mercury Café in downtown Denver. A fun event, attended by 100 people, it raised over $12,000 for the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado. The Queen City Jazz Band offered musical entertainment and attendants had fun dancing and swinging to the beats. Mercury Café offered delicious New Orleans-style food.
The evening’s festivities started with RMRA Board President Corinne Magid welcoming the crowd and giving a quick overview of the work of the organization. Dr. Benke, the Medical Director of the Rett Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado followed up with an emphasis on the importance of the clinic to families dealing with Rett Syndrome.
Rett dad, Rob Greenall, shared his daughter Ellie’s journey and provided heartfelt insights into the struggles of living in Seattle with an undiagnosed disabled child. After finally getting the diagnoses of Rett Syndrome and visiting the Rett Clinic in Colorado, the family decided to move to Colorado because of the services the clinic had to offer Ellie. Being close to a team of Rett specialists was that important to them!
Another heartfelt video was shown at the event:
Ticket sales, together with fantastic live auction items, a paddle raising, a wine pull, tarot card reader, raised $12,000. The drawing for one week in Maui was won by Yvette Kammerer, mother to Barret who has CDKL5 – well deserved & congratulations! Thank you to our event sponsor FirstBank!
