Magical Day – RMRA’s first Mommy & Me Makeover Magic

On February 12, 2017, Rocky Mountain Rett Association hosted a new event, Mommy & Me Makeover Magic. What started as an ad hoc idea by RMRA Board Member Bob Shorma, turned into an intimate and fantastic event for 10 mothers and their Rett daughters.

The event, held at Wild Roots Salon in Broomfield, offered mothers and daughters a break from their typical day of therapy and medical appointments instead they were pampered and beautified. Wild Roots Salon owner Amanda Shields and her team styled hair and provided light massages. Esthetician Anne Buhl, owner of Zen Glo, was on hand offering light facials and skin care advice. To round up the pampering, Hollywood make-up artist Blair Leonard applied expert make-up. Photographer Paul & Mary Sue Schultz took pictures to catch the magic providing a souvenir of a magical day.

Wild Roots Salon and all the volunteers were fantastic. They went out of their way to make sure that every person was given personal attention and felt special. In return, the volunteers gained experience and knowledge by helping special needs children.

With so much emphasis on medical issues, Rett girls seldom focus on looking pretty. But it is a simple way to increase their self-esteem. Bob, a Rett father, knows first hand how much the girls were love the day!

As an additional bonus, the event was featured on Denver 7 news. Check it out:
